i've got a 01 vin u sohc 165,000 and tired. Can i do a vin s dohc swap and if so how late can i go. (if not, how late can i go for a vin u)?

You should be able to use any 3.0 Vulcan (VIN U) from 00-05.

IIRC, swapping to a 3.0 Duratec (VIN S) requires more effort than its worth. There are wiring and transmission issues, not to mention changing the PCM. You may also have problems with the VATS.

The 3.0 vulcan is more reliable than the vin s dohc also.
