94 camaro misfiring

I have a 94 with a 3.4. When i get on it at lower rpms it won't really do anything, except sometimes backfire and miss. If I'm just driving down the road and get on it it will miss with no backfire. And if I just drive like an old person (slowly) it won't miss, won't backfire and just runs fine. Could this be a fuel delivery problem? I heard a cat. could do it, but mine is maybe a year and a half old so I'm not thinking that's it. I do know that I have two exhaust leaks, one right behind the cat and another just before the muffler (ex-stepdad put on the exhaust, thinks he's a mechanic). Could my plug wires be hitting metal and arching? Is it possible for a plug to be partially gas-fowled? I would appreciate any help anyone could offer. Thanks

true.. backed up cat sounds feasable.. but rarely is the problem.. if so the exhaust leaks would be to your benefit lol. have you checked the fuel pressure yet? sounds like a delivery problem.

Hey, I had this same problem with my 1997 firebird, and though the cat was clogged it was because of the misfire. The misfire was caused by a bad connection to my ignition control module.. I got a used one from ta creations for about $50. It solved my problem except for the cat, I just cut that off and went with some o2 sims. Also I should add that my ignition control module came with the coil packs. All is great now!!
