99 z24- nightmare stereo installation
I wouldnt pay $50 to install a stereo so i figured i could install a vr3 head unit myself and when i had it all wired up I turned the car on and heard a shocking noise. Now my dome lights, door locks, power mirror, keyless entry, and radio are out. The package for the stereo says if installed improperly it could seriously damage my vehicles electrical system. Is it just a fuse or am i screwed? Btw, im new here

Re: 99 z24- nightmare stereo installation
Welcome to AF!
Two things that could very easily cause this. First, is that you joined the wires incorrectly and had a short to ground as a result. Read this. Second is that you joined the incorrect wires. You need a vehicle wiring diagram and a stereo wiring diagram. Join the appropriate wires, from what I have seen, colors rarely match up from the vehicle to the stereo. Take your time, do one wire at a time, and double check the whole thing when you're done. After you get the adapter wired up correctly (I'm hoping you bought the adapter and didn't cut up the vehicle wiring), check all the fuses. It's possible you damaged the stereo depending on what wire went where, but the car is most likely fine. Hopefully the only damage you did was to the fuses.
