Short block replacement..other parts to replace

Having a new long block put in my 99 blazer.

Shop is recommending these parts..additional $850

distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, oil filter, serpentine belt, thermostat, water pump, oil pressure switch, temperature switch, timing cover, starter, motor mount, oil pickup tube

I think I need only:

motor mount, oil pickup tube and timing cover

Manual(chiltons) say timing cover need to be replaced if removing it as it may leak.

What do you guys think?

Re: Short block replacement..other parts to replace

I don't use short blocks, only long blocks. By the time they re-do the heads, you'll be at the same price. If they weren't planning to do the heads, that is just plain wrong.

Don't skimp, you want as many new parts as you can afford. You don't want to be trouble shooting a fresh motor because of old worn out parts. And if nothing else, A NEW OIL PUMP ALWAYS.
