Anyone installed Aftermarket radio in 06 up?

Has anyone installed a aftermarket radio in a 06 or higher. According to the websites I need a wiring harness that cost over $125.

Re: Anyone installed Aftermarket radio in 06 up?

Yes I have. And unless you can read schematics like the Sunday comics, and you are willing to splice into the loom or cannibalize your old radio for the plug. It is a wise choice to just go for the adaptors. (those GM plugs are hard to come by aftermarket)
Then there are other concerns that the pricey adaptor can fix such as changing control signal polarity etc. this is especially true if there is a CD changer or factory amps in the back etc. Then lets not forget that the after market schematics are MANY TIMES just wrong. Lets not forget the fear of letting the magic smoke out of something. You know that smoke that if let out….. the radio will not work anymore?
If you don’t mind running new wires it is fairly simple to find the ACC power, memory, and a dash light power and run new wires to the new amps/speakers. Many of those optioned out stereos from the factory are complicated and dedicated. Personally I would look around flee bay and see if I could come up with a less expensive alternative.
also remember that when the car is sold or wrecked you may not want that radio to go with it. But if the insurance company gets it you can just cut wires and fill the hole with the factory radio

Remember that I am Electrician by education, mechanic by trade and cracker by hobby. That is computer cracker.

And beyond that, you also have to decide whether you want to retain your factory warning chimes and OnStar as well as steering wheel controls.

Re: Anyone installed Aftermarket radio in 06 up?

I didnt know what I would lose by not using the harness other than the dings. I dont have the steering wheel controls or onstar.
My vehicle is a company vehicle so it is stripped down with just a am/fm radio with no cd or tape.
I have wired other radio in the past but I was thinking of it being easy to remove when I have to change vehicles and thinking there might be a cheaper harness that would just leave out the dings and such.
