Overheating 2001 sportage

I have a 2001 sportage with a 2.0 engine. I never had a problem until now. My temp guage goes all the way to the hot side and it overheats. I have no leaks and it seems to only happen when I drive, at an idle it goes back down.It has anti freeze and like I said no coolant leaks does any one have any ideas out there?

Does it happen more when a/c is in use? Don't forget that DEF and mix HEAT/DEF positions also trig the A/C ON. Check that the electric front fan, front of radiators, turns ON when the A/C is turned on.

THere are several reported cases of failed radiator fan clutch, the one driven by the engine. Several will install a replacement electric fan rather than changing the fan clutch.
You say no coolant leak, I understand no "visible" leak......but does the coolant tank stays at normal level ? DO you have to add coolant form time to time? A light head gasket leak is part of possibilities as it it reported quite often and some gasket leaks give no sign except overheating under load....and this would be often accompanied with poor heater performance...and erratic temperature reading.

No I did not have the ac on when it started to overheat. I check that front fan and it does not come on when I turn on the ac. As for visible leaks I have none. I had to add some anti freeze because it all came out through the overspill when it overheated. I checked my oil and its not mixed with antifreeze my radiator cap has no milky stuff on it and I checked my exhaust no traces or smell of antifreeze in the tail pipe. It also does not spew white smoke from the exhaust while running. Oh I also wanted to know how you tell if a fan clutch is bad.

If you try turning it by hand, it will but with a sluggish resistance. ALso, if you run the engine, you should feel a significant air flow, more of it when engine is hot. USually, except in hot air temperatures or when the a/c works, airstram at highway speed is enough and the fan is needed more at low speeds. ..check for clogging of the air passages....some vegetation stuff can clog a radiator in a very short time. It may be hard to see because you have the a/c radiator in fromt; you can use a water hose to try to dislodge dirt even if you cannot see.
Well.. there have been also several cases of stuck thermostats. While it is not the culprit in many instances, it is so inexpensive that it is worth a try....or you can even simply remove it for a little while just to test....

I have a 99 kia overheating problem , replaced belts , fan clutch , raditor hoses , new raditor and thermostat so what is my next step , how do u tell if it is a water pump or even a head gasket, not loosing coolent and dont have to add any so its hard for me to belive its a head gasket. Do i need to pressure test the system or should i go ahead and replace the water pump , head gasket and water pump is the last 2 things I can think of that could be worng.
