My 03 Impala LS with 115K(in very nice condition), has a very slight slip(long shift) while up shifting. The quote is around $2800 for a new tranny. Tranny shop said it should last a while before a needed repair. Is a rebuilt tranny the way to go, the quote was for a new one. Anyone have any good luck with rebuild shops in the NY,NJ,CT metro area? Thanks in advance.

This is unusual for this trans. I would get a full scan and look at tps activity and make sure the engine is well tuned first. Is the fluid burnt, was it ever serviced, this pertinent info is missing.

The car is in great condition and runs the same, and regularly serviced, the check engine light was only flashing on uphill climbs, then would go off. I also noticed a slight lengthening when shifting to the next gear, hence the check up at the shop, I will get more info on exactly what the scanned codes revealed tomorrow, then I will be able to post more info, thanks Max

Sounds like the flashing CEL is coming on because of a misfire(s). This can influence the shifting of the transmission. You'll need to take care of the misfire first. Hopefully, your transmission will be okay after that issue is solved.

I would let the repair shops do the troubleshooting ....go to two different shops that can get the DTC failure codes,,,from engine ,,and transmission....

then see if there findings agree...

the transmission shop quote does not answer the engine issues,,,this must first be corrected..

this could be the "defective" GM cat converter....very common ..
if its the converter you may get these under warrantee...

Thanks for all the advice, the code that is given is from the sensor in the transmission that controls downshift from overdrive, evidently this sensor is located within the transmission and not easily accessed, transmission shop was not sure if it was the sensor was causing the problem, or maybe the transmission causing the senor problem, he suggested the new transmission or $350 repair that may not solve the problem. He said drive the car until the problem gets worse. The car is up to date with tune ups and drives like new, besides the transmission issue. Most people are blown away when I tell them the car has 115K.

I don't care if this car looks new or was in a 4inch hail storm,....what were the DTC'S.....
