Brake Pads
I have an 02 Grand Prix GT and I am looking for some new brake pads. For some reason my dad bought Kevlar brake pads which are ridiculous. I cant drive 2 feet without a inch thick layer of dust on my wheels. Does anyone have and good quality low dust brake pads that they would reccomend?

Re: Brake Pads
Morse Ceramic here. Ceramic pads = practically no dust what-so-ever. Some members prefer more stopping power with semi-metallic brake pads.

Re: Brake Pads
Ceramics pads: BAD.They eat up rotors and take a very long time to break in.My father has seen them eat up rotors and replacing the rotors.

Re: Brake Pads
Plus Ceramic brake pads are very noisey. My father talks people out of putting on Ceramic pads and install the mid grade pads.Wagner also makes them with the best of both.

Re: Brake Pads
I have ceramic pads on my 99 GT with 45k miles on them (95% city) and they're still about 1/3 to 1/2 there. I have had no issues with dust, squealing, or rotor wear. Ceramics do have a slightly lower maximum coefficent of friction, so maximum stopping power is a little less, but it's not noticeable in normal driving. If you have a modded GTP and race it, or are a last second stopper/tailgater, then you may want to stick with a premium semi metallic pad like Raybestos or AC-Delco Durastop. Ceramic pads have come a long way since the rotor eating versions first available.

Re: Brake Pads
Yes, I have ceramics and have had them for the past few years (50,000 miles). They are still at about 80% left, and stopping distance is good, virtually no dust, and no noise. Only complaint I have is I replaced my rotors at the same time and recently my steering wheel shimmy's when I brake from 60 or higher. Although for some reason I think it may be due to the idiots at tires plus who did an alignment for me a month or so ago. Thats when it started to be noticable, and I'll bet they torqued my wheels on with an impact wrench and warped my rotors.

Re: Brake Pads
I bet you're right Tim. That's why I prefer to rotate my own tires. It seems to be harder and harder to find a shop that will do the job correctly, not quickly.

Re: Brake Pads
unbelievable isn't it? I needed an alignment after them strut mounts were replaced and I figured might as well have them rotate and align at the same time since I bought my tires there, it was free. Next time I'll think twice.
