99 Ram 1500 5.2 Oil pressure drop from 30 to 0
99 Ram 1500 5.2 V8 motor. No history with this truck as bought from salvage yard as is.
135,000 miles and motor runs good. Has 30-35 showing on the oil guage. While driving all of a sudden the pressure drops to "0" on the guage and check engine light comes on. After a short while the valves start tapping. If I shut the engine off and let sit for a minute or so then re-start the pressure goes back up to 30-35 and is fine for several miles then will drop again. Does anyone have any experience with this? Could this be the oil pump? The truck has been setting up at the salvage yard for 3-4 months...Is there anything short of changing the oil pump that I need to check out? Thanks |

drop the pan and see if the oil pump screen is clogged with sludge from abuse.

Yeah and next time , don't wait for the lifters to start clattering or you'll end up running over yer crankshaft.
