power windows inop

Hi guys

I just took a cream puff 89 Grand Marquis in on trade. The problem is the windows won't work. I replaced all of the clutch bushings that go bad in the motors, and the motors all test good now. The switches all test good as well. I can't find any blown fuses, and swapped all relays I could find. It seems as if I am just not getting any power to the switch. Also the low fuel light is on and the gas gague dosent work. Any ideas guys?

Re: power windows inop

Have you checked the relays under the passenger kick panel? The PW relay is there. If you disconnect fuel gauge wire and ground it, it should go to full. If it does, the sending unit is bad. If it does not move, check gauge.

Passenger side kick panel area. I haven't looked there, thanks. Which wire and where do I disconnect to test test fuel gauge.

Un plug it at the sending unit. The wire color is yellow with a white tracer. There is also an anti-slosh module in the dash that can cause the gauge to be inoperative. The relay is inside the hole in the A pillar for the windows. There is also a circuit breaker in the system.

Re: power windows inop

Found the green relay behind the passenger side foot kick panel. Found another brown relay buried up under the dash in the center area. Replaced both and still no power those windows. There is nothing in the a pillar of this car. What are the 4 relays under the hood by the washer fluid box for? What is the brown relay located in dash center area for? The green one in the kick panel is the supposed to be for the windows right?

I haven't messed with that fuel tank wire yet. The windows are the priority on this one.

Thanks

Re: power windows inop

The 4 relays under the hood are for the EEC, Fuel Pump, Horn and A/C. Have you looked in the door boot for a broken wire to the windows? These were bad about breaking wires where the door flexes the wiring. Can't really help with the relay under the dash

Re: power windows inop

There is some goofy old style relay right by the solenoid. It has two heavy yellow wires running to it. It had some red neck wire twist connection. I call those the twist and pray connections, I hate that crap. I soldered the wires back together so that problem is fixed, but still no power to those windows. What is that relay for ? I have a picture in the link below.

Re: power windows inop

The part number on that relay I talked about in the previous post is. E0VB14A055-AA it says 12 V, 20 A. I can't find any info. on this part number on google. I still don't know what it's for. According to my owners book there is a 20 Amp circuit breaker for the power windows attached to the starter relay. So my next question is where is the starter relay? I am just wondering if this is the part that is causing the problem.

Re: power windows inop

You can by-pass that for testing. If it works while by-passed, just get a 20 A circuit breaker and install it. That breaker feeds the power window relay. If it is good, check the wiring to the relay from the breaker. Could be a broken wire.

Re: power windows inop

Power window problem solved. The jack ass who owned the car before had the terminal on the negative side of the solenoid. No wonder it wasn't getting any power to the windows. Nothing wrong at all with that circuit breaker. The breaker I showed a picture before is for the power window. I should have seen that problem right away, Duh. Any way thanks for all the help guys.
