Today my check engine light came on. Since it's a '96 it is OBD2 compliant, so I hooked up my OBD2 scanner to the port to read the code and nothing. There is no power to the scanner, no lights come on, nothing. I know the scanner works since I checked with another vehicle.
The car seems to run fine except that the CEL is on. Any idea what might be wrong and what to try to diagnose the problem? |

Re: '96 Check engine light no no power to code reader
I figured it out.....
It turns out that the OBD2 circuit shares power from the interior dome light circuit. The dome light ciruit had blown the 7.5 A fuse. Put in a new fuse, code reader now works....that one had me worried. |
