Replacing rear rotors 2003 Silvie

I cant get my rear rotors off of my '03 silvie. The e-brake is a drum style. How do I back that off to get the rotor off? Any advice/help would be appreciated.

what is causing this to occur ??? I would suspect this rust belt vehicle with 4 wheel disk brakes to have this rusted to the hub...

or is this just hung up on the park brake shoes ???
your vehicle has NO E BRAKE ! this is a PARK BRAKE,,,,what this means is you must never ever use this to stop the vehicle when moving,,,,,

this is what the dealer/gm would call vehicle abuse...if you do...


if the rotor is rusted to the hub spray with good quality rust buster oil...give and hour to penitrate...then if necessary lightly tap with a hammer to loosen..

if it is the park brakes back off the cable so that there is no tension make sure the dog ears on the backing plate are in the fully released position...

Well I got them off, must've catching on the ebrake. Got everthing back together, now the ebrake isn't holding all the way. Is there an adjustment that needs to be made?

Yes, at the bottom there is a starwheel adjuster just like on regular drum brakes, adjust it just like you would on a drum brake system, the only difference is you don't want to adjust it to where it drags, just set it to right before it starts to rub. Those shoes are so thin you get about 1-2 stops out of them before they're toast, you don't want them rubbing because it'll wear them down. That's why it's a parking brake, not an e-brake. If you lose brakes, use it to stop, just be ready to replace the shoes of you ever do use it.

as jr i stated the shoes are not very durable...I suspect the park brake shoes have worn down the inner drum so that now there is a ridge that the park brake shoes are catching on...so how do you adjust the shoe star wheel properly,,,,you will have to get new rotors or have the park brake drum cut...then you will be able to do this..

I adjust this star wheel then install rotor vehicle in neutral...install two nuts on lugs to hold rotor,,,then rotate the rotor ...then repaet the whole process untill the inner park brake shoes rub slightly ,,,then back off 2-3 tits...
