Anyone running NASA TTS or ST2?
My plan this year is to run as many HPDEs as I can w/ the car then do a couple of TTS events then do the SuperComp school at VIR 10/9/09 to prepare for ST2 next year.
Anyone else racing their cars? Who are you racing with? |

Re: Anyone running NASA TTS or ST2?
I'm running with a local vintage club called Southwest Motor Sports. I run the car in a comtemporary class which is pretty wide open. It's gentlemen racing, no touching, which I like. This is my second full season, and I'm having a blast.
I'm also planning to run a couple of NASA events up with the Rocky Mountain Group. First race with NASA will most likely be at Pueblo Co in July. The new 347 stroker motor is very strong, and in my first race with the new motor the car is running lap times equal to my Z06 Vette. Just what I wanted. I think the dyno showed 350 ft-lbs and 325 hp, so it fits perfectly in the ST 2 class for NASA. SWMS doesn't care what hp the car is making in the comtemporary class, it's run what you brung.

Re: Anyone running NASA TTS or ST2?
Actually... I just worked up the ST2 calculations and you'd have to add weight! We found that we could have a max of 315 rwhp w/ our weight.

Feqrags... SWMS is very open to new drivers. I suggest checking out their web site. They post all their rules for drivers. Classes, tech inspection, etc. www.swms.org I think that if you are without a competition license, they'll want you to take their instruction for the first day, and then you can run as a rookie with the big "X" over your number. It's really a badge of honor... He he.... If you have a comp license from NASA, SCCA, or other organization, they are pretty open about letting you run with the race group right from the start. Still have to wear the badge of honor, but that's no biggie. The next race is June 6 and 7. Come on out and play. Your GT-RA will be in the thick of the pack with great passing and fun racing. Sandia Motor Speedway is a smallish track at 1.6 miles, and pretty tight with 14 turns. It's a torque track, so the Panoz GT-RA does well right out of the box. There is good competition in the contemporary group, and the guys are very fun to hang out with. It's gentlemen racing where everyone throws in to make sure it's fun.

You've got a fiberglass car and 18" wheels too.

Re: Anyone running NASA TTS or ST2?
I ran the NASA calc's again. My 3000 lb car gets a -0.25, the 275 width tires are a +0.4, and the GT-RA chasis is a -0.2. That means that I'm allowed a 8.65 lbs per hp. That calc to 346 hp allowable for the 3000 lb car. I've got room to spare with the current weight.
If I go to a lexan wind shield and remove other weight (like passenger seat, etc) I could get down to 2800 lbs and still be legal.

Re: Anyone running NASA TTS or ST2?
Along this topic. As Brian G. probably won't tell you: Guys take a look at this month's Grassroots Motorsports. May edition, page 157. Under the NASA Speed News you'll see a nice pic of Brian's car. Brian's carrying the banner for all of us!
