engine hesitating under acceleration

Hi, im new to this but really want to find whats wrong wiyh my car. I have a 2000 lincoln LS with the 3.9L V8. when first started it acts like it may be misfireing. it goes down the road good once you get up to sleed until you come to an incline in the raod, as the car accelerates to get up it it wants to start hesitating in a slight way. i guess you could say it does it under any acceleration. i am hoping someone could point me in right direction for what to look for. it would be greatly appreciated!!!!! THANKS!!!!!

Re: engine hesitating under acceleration

Welcome to the forum!

Your 2000 model year LS is prone to valve cover gasket, and specifically the plug well seal gaskets, leaking and causing misfires. There are also reports of folks having water run in to the plug wells and cause misfires. Both of these topics have been addressed through numerous posts in multiple threads on this forum, so I won't go in to details here. You can use the "Search this forum" tool from the Lincoln LS forum main page if you are interested in more detail. Ultimately, you're probably looking at needing valve cover gaskets changed and a few new coils. On the V8 this actually isn't all that bad of a job if you are mechanically inclined and have some basic hand tools.

If you're ever in the Cedar Rapids area when I'm available, I'd be happy to look your car over and confirm the misfire. If the 2000 V8 uses the same coils as the 2004 V8, I even have some good OEM coils in my garage....
