How to adjust F.I. mixture in 1999 CR-V?
My 1999 CR-V with 175000 miles started to show the CEL and code reader says catalytic efficiency low one bank. I can smell fuel and tailpipe is rich with soot. Question: besides changing to another new cat (done 30,000 miles ago) and doing a tune up of changing the sparkplugs, distributor cap/rotor, what else can be adjusted? I believe the 10%ethanol gasoline sold today is a cause of the CEL and mixture need to be adjusted. How and where do I start.

Re: How to adjust F.I. mixture in 1999 CR-V?
you cant adjust the mixture. well, you can but it requires aftermarket tuning software. and unless you know what your doing you can seriously screw things up. its not worth it.
the ethonol shouldnt mess your car up, something else is wrong. I doubt that its the problem but your valves may need adjusted, if thats the only code its giving you and you know for a fact that the cat is good (honda's dont like aftermarket cats) then it could be an 02 sensor reading wrong. either way it sounds like you should take it to a dealer and let them diagnose it.

definitely change out the spark plugs if they weren't done yet after soo many miles... that's what's causing your excessive unburnt fuel out the tailpipe...
your CAT can only handle so much unburnt fuel until it too will wear out prematurely again |
