breather tube missing

97 Windstar 3.8L

I bought the vehicle and there was no breather tube connected to the front valve cover. It did have a fram breather element (obviously NOT what is supposed to be there) and I am trying to figure out where this line is supposed to connect.

Is it possible that it is affecting driveability/mileage by not having this breather tube connected there? I can't seem to find anything about this problem anywhere online and I don't have access to another Windstar to trace the line.

Re: breather tube missing

1997, YES there should be a breather tube to the front valve cover....that goes to a hole in the back side of the big flex hose that goes from the Air filter/MAF bullet to the throttle body.

The PCV line is in the rear valve cover....driver's side......with a line that connects it to the top of the upper inake manifold.....next to the throttle body.

I don't see a listing for the breather that fits into the valve cover.

Re: breather tube missing

The breather that was in there looked like something you would find on a early 1980's Bronco or something, I couldn't find it either (I guess thats why)

Thank you for that information. Yesterday I went out and found the spot where the tube used to connect to. The previous owner obviously broke the tube and then plugged the spot on the air cleaner/flex hose because it was plugged with a 5/8 bolt that looked like it was supposed to be there.

With the help of some vacuum hose and my old PCV plastic breather tubes, I have something that resembles the original.
