Stereo removal
Hi all,
I have a friend with a 69 Chevelle. The stock radio is not working. My first question is how does the stock stereo come out to check the wiring? My second questions is can anyone recommend a location for placement of an aftermarket stereo while leaving the factory stereo in the dash? Thanks Andy

Re: Stereo removal
Hi there, I had a '68 and it is quite similar to the '69.
The radios are easy but you have to wedge under the dash as much as possible. You'll need a flashlight or droplight. Pull the front knobs off, and there is a bezel nut on each knob post. Remove the bezel nut. Under the dash there is a bracket arm going from the radio to the dash panel. Maybe two, can't remember. Should be held on by 3/8" or 7/16" fasteners. Disconnect the wiring harness connector and then pull out the antenna male connector and the radio should be loose in your hands for removal. I have seen where folks leave the stock radio in place for appearance, disconnect the wiring and run a modern radio or i-Pod inside the glovebox. Open the door - there it is. Close the door and listen to tunes while still having a fully stock look to the dash. Tom
