Question engine fail

hello to you all please can anybody help with this problem as i do not know anything about cars engines at all sad i know.
my car is a ford focus V reg.
the problem is that it will start ok in the mornings and drive very well but on some days the car will start fine but will not idle at all and the engine will stop, so now i have to rev the car and change into gear and pull away but when you are coming to brake and stop the engine will just stop and lose all power, will start up again with no problems then you can still drive untill you need to stop and again the engine will just stop as the car gets warm it will be ok and idle well when you do come to a stop, this has been going on for a few weeks now and i can only think that it will get worse, anybody have any ideas

Re: engine fail

Welcome to AF!

The idle air control (IAC) valve is going bad. Not very expensive. Looks like a small motor on top of the throttle body. Pull off the electrical clip, take off 2 bolts and your done.
