Flushing Transmission Lines

I have a brand new used transmission in my car, but one of the things in the Haynes manual it says to do is flush the transmission cooler lines with some special GM Tool. Is there any way/tools that i can use to to complete this task? The lines have been freely draining for a while now, but I would like to flush it if I can.

Thanks,

Oh yeah, its a 1989 Oldsmobile 98.

Re: Flushing Transmission Lines

Super easy. Install the cooler and all lines in the car. Leave the cooler return line disconnected from the transmission. Attach a plastic hose to the line and direct it into a bucket.

Then start the car and allow it to run for a few seconds. The trans will pump fluid through the cooler and lines, then into the bucket. Ideally, you want to pump a couple of quarts of fluid through the line. Make sure the fluid coming out is clean and has no debris in it.
If its still dirty, switch off the engine, add more fluid to the transmission and repeat the process.

When you are done, reinstall the line to the trans and top-off the fluid level.
