1989 Toyota Camry...

When the engine is cold it works just fine. As soon as the engine is warmed up in idle mode without even pushing the gas pedal it starts to oscillate just like somebody pushes the gas pedal and releases it. Please help! I am stuck!!!

Re: 1989 Toyota Camry...

We need more information to help you. What engine does the car have? How many miles are on the car? What if any repairs/maintenance have recently been done to the car? How does the car behave off idle when warm? How long has the car been doing this. In what condtions does this happen; wet, dry, outside temperature, etc.?

Re: 1989 Toyota Camry...

- The engine is 2.0L 4 cyl
- There are 200,000 miles on the car
- This has happened after we changed the engine gasket
- When it is off idle it works just fine. But when you are behind the traffic light in idle then that's when the problems begin!
- I have not seen any correlation with the temperature.

Do you know where the OBD port is located on this car?

Thanks!

Re: 1989 Toyota Camry...

You have what is known as the 3SFE engine. I don't remember where the OBD1 port is on this car, but what you can do is download the generation 2 Toyota Camry factory service manual that is stickied at the top of this forum's home page. It will have that information along with a lot of other valuable information.

"This has happened after we changed the engine gasket"

Which engine gasket?

The factory service manuals are here:

If this started after having a head gasket replaced by a shop, I would take the car right back to that shop and have them deal with the problem.
