Rental car review

I was given a 09 caliber sxt from my insurance company while my car goes into the body shop.

This car is brutal

Lets see..
Turn light signal is obnoxiously loud
automatic door locks are ridiculously loud and catch you off guard when they snap shut when you start driving.
Engine noise is ridiculous for a WEAK four cylinder.
Car is soooo underpowered.
The stock tires are crap.
20K (or 13 miles) on the odo. Brakes are squeaking. Already one headlight out.
Trunk couldn't fit my hockey gear. with this weird divider in place.
Cooler in glove box is just a ac vent that is in the glove box. Probably gives you frion poisoning if you drink anything out of it (i know it doesn't use that anmore but wouldn't be surprised.)
Can't see the front of your car when driving makes pulling into spaces tricky.
Crappy turning circle (and I own a awd dsm which has the turning circle of a truck) my girlfriends yaris turns 123234234 times better.
visibility out the back is very low and I'm used to having the talon high rise spoiler blocking my view.
did i mention super underpowered?
steelies hidden by cheap hubs.
gear shift has ackward knob and placement
uncomfortable driving conditions

and not the cars fault but it reeks of second hand smoke.

Good
Stereo is easy to use
I like the feature where the music stays on until you open the car door even with the key out.
the key fob reaches from far away.

Re: Rental car review

That's all good to know since i've been eyeing the calibers for a long time now. That sucks that theres so many issues w/ such a new car.

Re: Rental car review

Doesnt suprise me at all.

I lack any faith at all in any new chrysler products. They just seem to be so cheaply put together. Besides all the things you mentioned, mechanically I wouldnt expect them to last any amount of time. I'd hate to be driving one with like 80k on the clock.

Re: Rental car review

I just hate new cars in general (mostly the interiors). Seems like anything after maybe 04 just sucks. I love my parents 02 Monte Carlo, but the new new ones insides are terrible. Buddy has a 07 Mustang: dash is super square and tall, giving you a small front window, blind spot the size of 4 cars, and just looks cheap. Had a 07 or 08 G6 in Maui: this one was a little better. But still the interior had this cheap feeling to it, blind spots, and square. Very under powered too.

I would not buy any new car until they bring back the old school feel, like the Talon. Round edges, smooth flowing, & comfortable.

Re: Rental car review

DAMN man, just think of how much more you will love having the talon back... they do that sh*t on purpose... i'm a firm believer in that! they will scam you anyway they can! they give you a crap car to drive while they fix yours, then when you get yours back, your so happy and excited that you dont notice the fact that the repairs they did where shitty, or the paint doesn't quite match... dont fall for it like i did! they gave me a 2005 Monty Carlo.... 05! A/C didnt work for SH*T!!! it was a texas summer (100+ deg. F) when i got the DSM back, i didnt even think twice to really REALLY look at it... to this day (2 years later) im missing an exhaust hanger (not welded to the car anymore??? WTF?) Washer Reservoir is cracked, and leaks... (brought it to them to "Fix" a total of 3 times...), front bumper mounting bolts are stripped (the bumper is on the car, no options... without drilling and taping) the splash guards where torn from them removing them to paint the front and replace rear bumper.... dont fall for that! check your sh*t before you sign ANYTHING about accepting the car... check EVERYTHING! and remember this is my story, and i went to the "BEST" BODY SHOP IN TOWN with a "Lifetime Repair guarantee"... only the things that are wrong with my car, are "not related to the shops repairs, or the accident, they are from other incidents" its all a scam... the insurance company will cut every corner to get out of their with the lowest ticket price possible... just watch out man...

Re: Rental car review

when i got hit in the S10 the insurance gave me a caliber too, and hate it too.

Gas mileage was bad
engine was loud
CVT makes it weaker and it's loud too
Underpowered ( are they 2.4?)

I'm excited. Is this with all new paint? Or what exactly got done? Just the repairs? I'm anxious.

Re: Rental car review

I paid 250 cash for some extras but I didn't get the whole car painted. The guy wasn't going to do it all on the insurance co's dollar cause they refer him a lot of business in our small town. But I am pretty pleased
