77 caprice trying to turn itself over after shutting off

hi this is for my friends 77 coupe. When he shuts the car off it will sound like its shutting down normal then all of a sudden it wants to turn itself over a couple more times then it will finally shut off for good. any help?

That's called 'dieseling' and occurs due to any number of reasons, including but not limited to -

Overheating or plain running hot
Low quality gasoline
Fast idle
Vacuum leak
Incorrect ignition timing
Burned valves
Carbon buildup anywhere in combustion chamber

you forgot to mention the anti dieseling solenoid....
this and the carb not adjusted correctly..

I have seen this solenoid bind up then the throttle plates stay open...

the carb culd need rebuilding or its running too hot antifreeze not flowing rite or not enuff
