turn signal right - sometimes
Q1 I have a 97 CrownVic. Left turn signalling is no problem. If I push the multi function switch slightly upwards for right turn signalling all flashers, front side and rear, cluster indicator and clicker works. If I push the MFS lever firmly all the way up, only clicker and rear flasher works. If I lower the lever and fiddle around a bit everything works. Hmmm. My guess is for the MFS since all the flashers work. Can it be fixed or must I buy a new MFS? Q2 I have one of a few CrownVics in Sweden so parts retailer are more or less non existens. Can anyone help me get a new MFS should it be needed? Greetings to all from Mr J-C, Stockholm Sweden

It is possible to clean the contacts in the switch to see if that helps any. Just be careful, if you screw it up, you will have to buy a new one anyway.

Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner down around the flasher switch portion of the stitch and work it a few times. Sometimes this will work and you do not have to remove it from the car.

Hey again, w2o. Just wanted you to know that IŽve disassembled, cleaned up and assembled the MFS. The coppar contacts had a lot of green surfaces. Also some of the small protruding contacts (contact shoes?) needed some additional bending. Due to an appointment later that day I didnŽt finish it up as good as I could have done but now I know it is possible and the next time will be easier. And to others, take note - have patience if you want to disassemble and assemble the MFS house. Have fun with your Crown Vics. Thanks again w2o. /J-C, Stockholm Sweden

I was having a similar problem with my 1998 turn signal, except it was turn signal left - sometimes. I sprayed CRC 3-36 (like WD-40) into the hazard light switch on top of steering column and worked the hazard switch in and out several times. The problem has disappeared and my hazard flashers started working again. The hazard lights had not functioned since I bought the car from the state patrol in 2003! This saved me time, money, and I had nothing to lose trying it. Disconnect the neg. battery terminal first just to be safe.
