2003 Z71 squeek while driving
Good Morning,
My 03 Silverado with 72000 miles has developed a high pitched squeeky squeel while driving. It is Faint- cannot here with the windows closed. It does not do it while stopped and idling or braking. Seems to be coming from either the front or rear drivers side wheel. can't tell which. Any ideas what this might be? |

I would guess the rear pads are worn as these tend to get damaged sooner by cal pin failure----rust... |

Jack the front end up and check for worn out wheel bearing hub asm. They are common on these trucks, I just changed 2 within the last month. You can get a new one from advance auto for about $125.00. The asm comes complete w/ABS sensor and harness. Your truck is in the right mileage range for this repair!

Sounds to me like you need some brake pads.

Re: 2003 Z71 squeek while driving
ahm, when was the last time you used zerks on the front suspension components?
btw, in general, brake pads do not touch rotors while driving. so, the wear gauges on pads will not produce any noise. besides, it's scraping, metal on metal noise, not squeak. i have ranger, which developed really annoying squeak in the front left suspension. left turn only and going up/down on bumps. brought it to les shwab locally, they "diagnosed" worn out tierod. so, i turned around and bought a box of zerks and when came back home, zerked tierod and upper ball joint, while i had wheel off. did not fix it. so, i got my son behind the wheel, made him produce the squeak with steering wheel, and found that it, actually, was lower ball joint(mechanics stetoscope came handy). zerked it today, greased - BINGO!
