Wheel Hub Question

Hey guys, I had a question....
How do you know when your wheel hub is bad or going bad?
Is there any special sounds or signs I need to pay attention to?

Re: Wheel Hub Question

Possible ABS and Trac Off lights. Noise sounding like an airplane starting at around 30 mph and increasing in pitch as speed increases. May change pitch when moving steering left to right and vice versa. ABS braking kicking in when it shouldn't or failing ABS initialization.

Re: Wheel Hub Question

Yes, noise stops completly when car is not moving, and then It starts up again when car goes .
Sound doesnt change with speed, it stays the same , and you can hear it more with the windows closed.

Re: Wheel Hub Question

Jack up the car on the side that is making noise and spin the wheel and see if you can hear or feel if it is the bearing?

Re: Wheel Hub Question

Once you have both of the wheels off the ground, put your hands @ the 12 o"clock & 6 O'clock position of the tire & try to shake it to see if you can detect any loose movement. If you detect any movement, more than likely the hub bearing is bad!
