Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

My friend has a 96 cavalier that he is tryin to sell for $700
but in my opinion thats way to high for the condition this car is in.
info on car
miles 166,580, 2dr, 5 speed, 2.2L, new passenger door, right front fender, new radiator, steel wheels, new front break pads and one new rotor

now for the not so good:
hood is all bent up (ran in to a reciver on a truck), bent radiator support, hole in bumper, head light jus sits in there not bolted down, cracked winshield, covered rust spot in front of right rear tire, where the radiator hose goes in to motor on top the bolts broke when removing and had to be drilled out and it has a bolt and nut on each side, left rear wheel bearing is bad, plastic around radio is busted off, tires warn down, igniton had to be replaced because stock ignition locked up. galvinized metal rivited on hood to cover a hole and painted and doesnt even match.
im thinking it has over $700 in repairs
the kid didnt have money to fix any of the stuff properly so i ended up fixing most of the stuff and i did it jus half ass

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

I wouldn't spend a dime over $300 for it.

Isuzu tranny in that is garbage, they are known for blowing HG's... Tell him $300 or walk away.

lol $700 really?
I'd say no more than $500

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

I'd take that $300 to the casino and see if you can turn it into enough to buy something better... at least that way if you lose it you don't have a junk car to dispose of. From how you described it (galvanized steel riveted to a hole in the hood, one new rotor, interior broken, etc), it sounds like not only is this a high mileage car, but that it has been abused for quite some time. That most likely means maintenance has been neglected, which means it won't last long.

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

well im not exactly old enought to go to the casino so i dont think i would beable to do that.
well with this car im not very worried about most of the stuff because i race at West Liberty and my car i race now is an 88 Mazda but im looking to up grade to a Cavy and this was the most decent cavy as far as performance wise. and im try to get it cheap as i can and maybe part out some of the interior if its worth it. but it still way to much for even a race car. i even blue booked the car and it was in such a poor condition it didnt give me a price

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

Oh, you should have said you're going to race it, that makes a huge difference. I had a 96 Beretta (2.2L M/T) I was going to race in Vinton (I rolled it and totaled it), and a guy I talked to said that it would almost certainly win just because almost everyone there had auto trans and slightly smaller engines in theirs... and he's rode with me on dirt roads (coincidentally, that's where I rolled it ). I'd go for it then, and probably move the maximum payment up to $500 personally, especially since it's from a friend.

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

Well that's between the two of you, but I would value the car at no more than $500. Since you were nice enough to do work on it, I think he should be nice enough to knock a few hundred extra dollars off it for that. I don't see anyone buying a car like that to drive anywhere but a racetrack, so he may not be able to sell it as a mode of transportation anyway.

Smile Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

I sold my 96 Cavalier the other day for $400 and it didn't have anything wrong with it. But I sold it to my son. I probably would have asked $1500 to the general public. Car dealers say they are worth -0- until they get their hands on them, then it's $3995.

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

if you go to kbb.com its worth about $600 as a private party sale, that's if you think it's in fair condition.

Cool Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

man the only thing that is good for is parts to help you fix one up! it is not worth the $300.

1996 cav
samll block 350 with ramair 5 speed manual.
9 in ford rear end, 9'11 gears.

Re: Price on a 1996 Cavalier?

true. Id buy it for $300 MOST. More likely $200 or less and a round of beer. Even for racing. Need to work on it and parts will costs more than its worth. Friend or no friend. Too much. My 1999 is worth no more than $600.
