1/24 Revell BMW Alpina Roadster V8

Here's my second Bimmer. This time I used automotive paint (professionally mixed Alpina Blue) and made some modifications to the kit.

The round tail lights were made using this technology (the article is in Russian, but you can get the idea from the pictures):

And this is how I modified the wheels:

(For those of you not familiar with Revell wheels, here's a picture.)

The brake discs are resin copies of a suitable diameter Tamiya brake disc - this way I didn't have to design my own polycap housing. I used details from the Revell parts to make the calipers.

A family portrait:

Thanks for watching!

Great job and awesome photos! Are those the kit tires? Two more things:

1) did you have any fit issues?
2) what color/brand did you use for the seats? I have a hard time finding a bright blue like that.

Hi,

for a Revell kit you did a great job.

It just could sit a little bit lower IMO

Re: 1/24 Revell BMW Alpina Roadster V8

Thanks for the comments!

To BVC500:

Yes, the tires are from the kit. They have the correct tread pattern (Michelin Pilot Sport 2), but their profile height is incorrect.

1) There were some fit problems. Be sure to dry fit everything if you are going to build this kit.

I had to remove some plastic from the upper section of the dashboard to fit the windshield. The front struts didn't fit, so I had to shorten them by approx. 1.5 mm. The folded soft top was too wide, but that was easy to fix. I also had some problems with the headlights. The chrome part number 4 was too wide (had to cut it in the middle and then glue it back together), and the right clear part (number 40) did not fit the hole in the body.

There's one more thing I should have done, but I didn't: the rear axle should be moved front by approx. 2 mm. It will look misaligned if you don't modify it.

I also agree to the comment that the car should sit lower.

2) I mixed that blue color from Model Master acrylics. I can't check it right now, but I think that the main color is 4660 (Dark Blue), and it was brighter before I mixed it with tan and gray.

Clean work, nice paint !
I especially like the work done on the exhaust, did you use airbrush ? very realistic shade and effects.

Beautiful Z8 model!

You did great with this Revell kit. The wheel job is well done and makes them look much better than what it would have been without ( I did the same on the E36 Alpina Revell, and the difference was huge).

If you lower the front a bit it will be perfect.

Thanks rallymaster!

Yes, everything on this model (except some small details) is painted with airbrush.

Thanks jano11!

I don't think it's possible to lower the front once the model is finished, so I'll have to keep it as it is. Do you have any pictures of your E36?

Te color is beautiful on this one. I like your clean finish and balanced details on both the interior and the exterior.

Don't worry, it is a very good looking model as it is!

PS: I have pictures with it before I had to strip the paint due to a reaction that occurred 6 months after painting!

Thank you all for your comments!

jano11, I remember reading about your paint problem now. It was a nice looking model before the paint got cracked. Hope it turns out better next time!

Thanks!
Hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky! (I've bought it used, already built and painted in blue)
