I have been reading on random sites like WikiAnswers and others, that I am going to need a special tool to remove some of the lines on the fuel sending unit/fuel pump, once the tank has been dropped. Any truth to this?

Re: Special tool needed for removing fuel lines?
UGH! I wanna push this van off a cliff. I got everything put back together and now I cant get the fuel pump lock ring to lock in place.
![]() It would NOT fit with the largest of the gaskets in place (directly under the sending unit) so I had to do it without that. I managed to get all but 2 of the clips on the retainer in place, but upon starting up it leaks fuel pretty healthy. Can I use silicone or any kind of seal-all?

No, a silicone seal will not work.
Is the leak coming from the large o-ring seal from the fuel pump housing or from the 2 lines coming off the fuel pump housing? |

Re: Special tool needed for removing fuel lines?
It was actually coming from one of the fuel lines that clips into the top of the sending unit (I thought I had put them together right
) but I never did get those 2 other "teeth" from that lock-ring into place. 2 weeks later and no leaks so I am just gonna roll with that one....

Re: Special tool needed for removing fuel lines?
Since the locking plastic clips were damaged, you run the risk of the line disconnecting due to vibration or the fuel pressure poping them off. I do not need to tell you what can happen if the hose comes off and the fuel pump continues to pump fuel. These plastic clips are suppose to be replaced with a new one anytime the lines are disconnected.
I still have my old clips if you want me to mail them to you. Otherwise, a new set of clips will like cost just cost a few dollars at the dealer. One cilp is white and the other is black. If my memory serves me right, the white clip is smaller so it goes to the thinner hose. The two fule ports coming off the fuel pump are different sizes. |

Re: Special tool needed for removing fuel lines?
I think my last post was kinda confusing. LOL. I did use the old clips and they held just fine. I appreciate the offer though. I have a 14 month old kid at home and wouldn't dream of driving in a vehicle that would put him at risk.
