Transmission question

I have a 1996 Jimmy SLT 4x4 with a transmission problem. Reverse just stop working all of a sudden and it is having trouble shifting into high gear. The check engine light on. It has been bugging me for a long time and I feel like I am out of options other than getting a new tranny. Any solution?
Can someone help me out as to which transmissions will fit in to it? I have the chance to get a 98 blazer transmission and I dont know exactly if that will fit? Also is the linkage relevant to the transmission? Asking because mine is a column shift and iv seen alot of floor shifters.

Any help would be great!

Re: Transmission question

Welcome to AF, the trans would need an overhaul for sure, anyway any salvage yard can tell what the direct interchanges are. The linkage could be swapped over to yours either way.
