No sound only buzzing from speakers
Today I did a quick install in my 2003 Mustang GT. When I finished I turned on the radio to only get loud buzzing from all speakers no sound. I left the rear speakers hooked up to deck while I tried testing the amped front speakers but even the rear speakers played no sound but they did not buzz.
The power wire is ran through the fender because I didn't have time to run it through the gromit but I will be doing that later. On the drivers side I have the power wire, remote wire, and speaker wire from the front speakers going to the trunk. On the passenger side I have the speaker wires and RCA cables going to the trunk. Before hooking everything up the rear speakers would play and sound nice. Now with everything hooked up I get no sound out of the rear speakers and only loud buzzing out the fronts. With the car on or off and if I turn on my headlights while its on I get an extra whine. The remote wire is connected to the power wire in the back of the deck. The RCA's are kinda old and when I unhook them the sound goes away and the RCA's have been grounded out before I let one end touch bare metal in the trunk while they were plugged into the deck and the deck was on it made my dash light fuse blow lol. Could that have ruined the RCA's? I was thinking about buying new ones to test it with but I wanted to see if anyone had some other ideas on what it could be? I've hooked systems up before and never had this problem. I also think I can get a better ground but my multimeter tells me its a good ground.

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
if you have a pioneer deck, you blew the pico fuse on the RCA's ..... if not you have probably just blown the RCA outputs

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
Stupid question but does the noise happen on every single output or just the radio?

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
do you mean from the amplifier? Like if I plug it into different channels then yes every channel makes the sound. or do you mean if I have it on radio, or cd, or aux does it make a difference? Then no matter what signal I have it set to I get the sound I can set it to cd and still hear the sound set it to radio still hear it ipod still hear it. But as soon as I unhook the amplifier the sound goes away.

I do have a pioneer DEH-P2900mp so I'm guessing its the pico fuse and according to google I would have to send it in and it costs $70.

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
an easy way to find out is wire the ipod directly to the amp input, if that works then the deck is bad

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
So instead of using the RCAs for the deck use the inputs for the ipod got it. I'll try that tomorrow stuck at work now making frappuchinos.

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
Okay I hooked my ipod up to my amp and blow I got sound. Its like a win/loss feeling. I found the problem but i cant fix it without either sending my deck in $70 or buying a new deck which is what I'll probably do.
Since I've been wanting a new deck this is a good excuse to do it but I wish I could have some good music while I wait to get a new deck.

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
wire the ipod to the headunit end on the RCA cable and just run it straight thru to the amp till you can get another HU

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
you are by-passing the headunit until you can get another one.

Re: No sound only buzzing from speakers
o sorry i've been MIA but I got a new headunit. (the same one) for cheap from my usual stereo shop. They just basically charged me the $70 I would've paid to get it fixed. Now I'm riding with sound again. Thanks for all your help everyone.

If they have a repair guy, it's actually an easy repair.
