Carb recommendations?
I am converting the LS1 over to a carb setup and wanted to get some feedback for a good road race capable carb, trying to stay @ $550-ish if possible

Re: Carb recommendations?
ANyone have experience or heard of anything about Proform?
This one looks appealing, from a feature function and cost perspective... Proform 67205 750 CFM HP Race Series

Re: Carb recommendations?
Eric, I also use Barry Grant Mighty Demons. I have had very good success and no problems using these carbs on the last 2 cars that I have raced. I have used 650 Mighty Demons on both and my last car was a 460 RWHP 5.0 liter.
I have used Holleys in the past and also had few issues with these. Bottom line for me for going with the Barry Grant was getting most of the desirable 'custom race carb' features at a massed produced price. If you have an excess of cash for a custom carb then this may work better for you......... With the 5.0 in my Panoz we tried both the 650 and a 750 Mighty Demon on the dyno. The 750 did not yield any Hp or Torque advantage so we stayed with the 650. Being a little larger you engine may like the bigger carb but only the dyno will tell you this for sure. One thing to look out for with Barry Grants is to ensure that the threads for the air bleeds in the air horn of the carb have been formed properly. I have experienced where these threads have not been formed properly at the factory and a bleed has dropped out of the carb as it had nothing to hold it in. Not great if it gets sucked into your engine!! Otherwise no other quality issues that I have struck. You may read on other forums where people say they have not been able to get a Barry Grant to run properly on their engine. I cannot see how this could occur unless the tuner is not adequately trained. We have never had this experience as with appropriate jet and bleed changes we have been able to get satisfactory raceability. As with any race engine you definitely need to dyno tune the set up to adjust the carb properly. I am interested to see how your carbed LS1 goes as I like the Edelbrock kit for this conversion, particularly the Victor style kit for road race applications which I guess you will opt for?

Re: Carb recommendations?
We've used a pro-systems on our 5.0 build... it was just under a $1000 though.

Brian, have you done any road race specific modifications to your BG Mighty Demon carbs (i.e. jet extensions, different floats or other)? Kel.

Re: Carb recommendations?
NOPE! not needed! Actually I am not totally sure. We gave them to my engine builder and he tuned them. If he did anything it didnt cost much? I can ask if he remebers if you need to know.
