Silverado plug wires

I keep reading that in order to know what plug wires to get, you read the number stamped on the coil. I have a 2001 Silverado with a 4.8L and supposedly should have a number of either 19005218 or 12558693.
I do not see any number on anything except what I think is the egr with a number of 12568582. Where the heck do I find the number??

If there more round than there delphi coils Stamped #19005218


If there more square they are Mitsubishi equipped Stamped #12558693

when replacing plug wires compare old wire resistance to new ....DO NOT INSTALL NEW WIRES WITH OUT CHECKING FOR THE OEM RESISTANCE SPEC....TO BE CORRECT..

if the oem wires are bought ,,,you must still check the resistance,,, that the wires are correct and not defective....

Are you just checking for continuity across all plug wires?
Or are you looking for a Maximum # of Ohms resistance? What is the "Magic number?"

the spec is different on each engine...my 2000silverado is around 550-650 ohms / plug wire...

yesterday the job I did was 94 s10 4.3L those wires where supposed to be around 6,ooo ohms ...the wires removed some were at 11,000 ohms ,,not open but still getting too high for the correct spark...

over time plug wires increase in resistance,,,then the voltage starts jumping were its not supposed to..


so as I did yesterday the wires removed were measured and the new wires were measured ,,,this is so that the work being done will not need be repeated....

in the case of this vehicle the back fire under load was caused by the hood mounted w/washer nozzle hose fell off spraying w/washer solvent on the distributor cap....

wires cap rotor replaced ,,,owner is now happy..

the wires that I prefer are the delphi type ...don't use the cheap one's...
