Porsche 956 - Revell or Tamiya

I gonna buy a Group C model for legendary Porsche 956.
I see after a research, that I have two options. The Tamiya and the Revell kit.
Which are better (accurate, detailed, no fitting problems, etc.. )?

I gone build the Stefan Belof 's 956 from Spa, were he died in "Eu Rouge" fatal accident. I see that Revell, have a release with right(?) decals.
It's any extra decals (Jagermeister logo's) for Tamiya kits.
Thanks a lot again.

there is no contest, the Tamiya kit has it all.
only downside to the kit is rubbish molded on exhaust on the chassis.

If you want to make the Spa Car, the "Jägermeister" decals will not be useful, because in Spa he drove a "Schiesser" sponsored car.

Tamiya all the way.

As for Jaegermeister decals for 956 Porsche there is a "Porsche 956 Turbo Jaegermeister '84 Norisring" decal set from Museum Collection, and I've got 2 of them, so if you're interested let me know.

Wink Re: Porsche 956 - Revell or Tamiya

none of the kits will fit the car bellof raced his last race in

if u have the chance (and the money) go for a tamiya kit and the shorttail transkit of the 1984/85 Porsche 956 by Studio27

unfortunetly there ain't the "Schiesser" decals available for it ;(

i was thinking about making a gfk car kit of that car (for slotracing) with the right decals (some test prints were done on an alps printer - but the quality...)

and btw - the Revell kit is an 962 not an 956 - it's from the hasegawa mould...

I always guessed that. Is there any comparative kit review Tamiya vs Hasegawa/Revell?

Re: Porsche 956 - Revell or Tamiya

Thanks all you guys, for the quick and complete response.
So, I can recapitulate :
1. Tamiya kit its much better
2. Revell kit are for an 962
3. Bellof 's Spa car are short tail version but tamiya 's kit are long tail version. (An expensive modification are available from Studio27)
4. No "Schiesser" decals available
I am true?

So, some new questions ...
Are Jaegermeister decals for 956 Porsche are accurate for a Bellof long tail car (any possible race)?
Bellof ever raced a 962 Porsche ? (which decals if yes?)
Thanks again.

Re: Porsche 956 - Revell or Tamiya

Beloff drove both 956 and 962 Porsches with the following sponsors:

Porsche 956:
Jägermeister, Racing, Rothmans, Eterna
Porsche 962:
Jägermeister, Schiesser, Torno

Re: Porsche 956 - Revell or Tamiya

If you want to build a full detail 956 shorttail without spending the money on a S27 transkit you can make one from a Tamiya 956 and add the rear from a Tamiya 962. It's some work but doable.
You should be able to do that in Jaegermeister colours with existing decals.

There was a decal sheet for the Schiesser car from Blackbox but they are long gone.

If you have to have the Spa car this place might be an alternative:

http://www.scalemodeller.de/A_startp...tpageframe.htm

They do the Schiesser decals in 1:18 with an ALPS printer. It should be possible to print a 1:24 sheet as well. May be a question of the price:-)

mhhh - referencing to the book "Stefan Bellof - Eine viel zu kurze Karriere" he drove only once an 962 at the "Mugello 1000km" in an Porsche 962 Turbo/Brun in 1985. At that time Brun drove in "Jägermeister" livery.

About the longtails - as far as i remember he drove them only once - in LeMans 1983 together with Jochen Mass. Those decals are available by Studio27 (ST27-DC767C) which i own for my Bellof builds...
The rest of the races should all be shorttails.

regards

i have to say i'm wrong. just found an image in the book where they presented the new car. The car Bellof drove was the green "Torno" sponsored car with an additional front flap on the hood like some shorttails had. The car number for Mugello was #19.

as far as i know only for 1986 and 87 cars are decals available...
