Question TAC Meter

Hello fellow 3SX'ser.
I was wondering if anyone out there is haveing problems with their TAC meter? The problem that I am having is that it is not measuring the RPMs correctly. The engine is strong (knock on wood), I have no white or blue smoke coming from the tail pipe and I just had a tune up at the dealer and that is when they indicated that the TAC motor will need to be change soon.
Has anybody out there had this problem? Is there a do it yourself fix for this? If so what are the steps and where can I buy the parts? Thanks
