Angry 1999 park avenue power seat problem

I apologize if this has been covered before, but I was unaable to find anything on this by search so I thought that I would post this.

Both front power seats worked fine this past Sunday. The wife gets into the car Monday morning and realizes that the pre-programmed buttons does not move the seats. She tries the buttons on the side of the seat and still nothing. When you hit the remote that doesn't do anything either.

I checked the car out last night.

Number 1) I picked-up a Haynes book for GM FWD vehicles from 1985 to 2005. There is not one mention of power seat anything except for 1 small sentence regarding removing the seat and even that was worthless.
The book shows absolutley nothing in the wiring schematics pretaining to the power seat ciruit at all.

Number 2) Whatever circuit it is that does power the seat is ok because there is 12 volts at the seat switch.

Number 3) I tested the switch and that turned out to be ok.

Number 4) When I applied power to the harness, I could hear a faint clicking of what I can only assume to be some relay of sorts under the seat and nothing moves.

BY THE WAY---It turns out that BOTH front seats have the same issue.

1) Is there a relay that operates BOTH front seats?
IF so, how do I get to it?

2) I was trying to remove the seat by trying to locate the mounting bolts of the seat while still leaving the power mechanism in place. Is that possible on the Park Avenue?

3) How do remove the front plastic peices under the front of the seat without destroying them and will this allow me to get to the front bolts.
I can't get to them to remove the seat. I can reach the rear ones but not the fronts.

Thanks for Help in Advance,
jlm1

Re: 1999 park avenue power seat problem

I've had both of my front seats replaced (bad motors, broken frames), but that one is something I haven't heard of yet.

Have you called a Buick dealer to see if they can shed any light on this issue or give you information on where the relays are located? We have 6 Buick dealers in our area and I have made calls to most of them at one time or another, asking about different issues with my car. I have run across Service Coordinators who have been willing to share some of their knowledge without bringing in the car. If it's a problem they have seen in the past, they might be able to tell you at least where to look next. I also have gone in to the Parts department, asking about parts and they can show an exploded view of the (in this case) seat and all the parts that are attached, etc. You may find out where some relays are located that way, too.

Hopefully, they and/or somebody here has some information that can help you. I know that a couple of guys here have taken apart their seats and may be able to give you some help.

Hope you can get that fixed soon!
