Tranny swap done, caused a problem plz help
Allright, on my 1994 Z71 I took out the automatic and dropped in a 5 speed manual. It was pretty easy since the donor truck i had was the same year, so everything just bolted right up. NOW THE PROBLEM---- for some reason when i am driving the engine sputtered and died twice now, i found out that the ECM fuse was blown, both times. What would make it do that? ALSO-- for some reason the brake light fuse keeps blowing too, I checked all the wiring i had undone and its not damaged and is put back together tight and correct, anyone have any ideas? your help will be greatly appreciated.

well, donno about your year, but TCM is operated by ECM. now, when you swapped trannies, your ECM probably goes nuts with that trannie. I don't think it's as easy as it appears, bud.

nope i didnt ONLY because i was assured by the chevy dealer service manager here that the ecm had nothing to do with the tranny so i wouldnt need it, now the truck is off at the junk yard for quite sometime now

I'm definitely not an expert, but I think you need the ECM from the donor truck. If that truck is long gone you'll have to search for another '94 with manual trans and the same options as your current z71. Get some other opinions and good luck.
I'm doing the same swap on a '94 Saturn and I will definitely need the ECM from the donor. |

Re: Tranny swap done, caused a problem plz help
ok great news. by a stroke of luck i went to drive the truck bout a week ago and i blew 3 ecm fuses in a row, then i realized it happened when i pushed the clutch in, so i got to looking and the 3 wire wiring harness had fell against the clutch pedal push rod and rubbed thru til the wire was grounding out, i taped it and zip tied it out of the way. been driving it for bout 200 miles now and lots of shifts and havent blown a single fuse yet, so i guess the ecm is just fine.

when ever a job like this is done with a vehicle of this age the plastic harness holders crumble...using ty fasteners with holes to secure to the sheel metal you will have a trouble free wire problems... this also includes the plug wires... |

"Didn't make no sense"? Didn't make any sense would be the grammatically correct way to state that thought, however it is great advice. And your reply to him doesn't make any sense, you had loose wires that were rubbed through, how would checking for crumbled plastic wire tubing not have anything to do with your reply? The purpose of that tubing to to protect the wires from getting rubbed through, you obviously had some trouble with some plastic breaking (either ties or tubing), hence the wires out of place and rubbed through. Now I'm not going to turn this around on you (very much), but the way things seem from here, if you are stupider, it's not for having read that! You should be thanking him for advice that would probably save you a headache down the road if you're smart enough to take it.

well well well, if you had read my post I found the problem and fixed it, i stated it cause it might give others an idea if they encountered a like issue. the fact that you wanted to stick up for someone is a noble act, but people like you should learn to know the difference between helping and/or butting out. you think i would take on a task like doing a tranny swap and not think to look at wires once i had a problem? who the f%$k are you anyway? what gives you the right to sit there and type the garbage you did? either you were raised wrong or you and your butt buddy taking turns whacking each other off while you type. do me a favor and mind your own business, your garbage was not wanted so go back in the closet and stay off my post. people like you make me sick! sound all smart online but when it comes down to it dont even know how to put gas in thier car! you loser, go jump off a tall building.

EDIT: I forgot your advice to me... We don't really have any tall buildings around here, so the best I could hope for there would probably be some broken bones. But I sincerly appreciate your suggestion of how to make this world a better place. I tried turning my .45 around on me, but when I pull the trigger towards me, nothing happens. Can't figure that one out! First tall bulding that goes up, I'm jumping! I just hope there's not a complicated system of horizontal bars at the top the prevents me from going over.

) than you were it wasn't due to reading that post. I was merely attempting to help you in narrowing down the possible causes. I don't care if a complete stranger respects me or not, just pointing out yet another violation, and had you respected j cAT and his tip, I would have said nothing and we wouldn't be having this conversation. I would like to point out, however, that except for turning your insult around on you, I never said anything to disrespect you where you didn't first disrespect me. Until you disrespected j cAT, I had no disrespect for you. If you think an ASE certification means nothing, go take one test and see how you do. I'll admit that they were extreemely easy for me, but I assumed that was because the knowledge was there. Maybe they really are that easy... but I'd like to know your background in education if you feel that having a college degree in something is meaningless. Now as for being "booksmart", I don't understand why that is bad. If you assume that a person can be only one kind of smart, then I could begin to see why, but there is more than one kind of smart, and one person can be smart in many ways. Why exactly do you feel that 90% of us are full of BS? Also, I would like to point out that the way you worded it, you said that most people who are booksmart are ASE certified, which is clearly false, but keeps painting a better and better picture. You take your vehicle to whomever you prefer, that's your choice but I've seen some huge messes when one of them tries more than removing or installing bolts. Anyone with two thumbs can remove and reinstall a bolt, that's the easy part. You're also taking a huge jump in assuming that I am a "p.o.s.", you know absolutely nothing about me, other than I am whooping your ass verbally, and I guess you must not like it. As for me staying out of this, I'll direct you back to my 4th and 5th sentences. I stand up for anyone who is in the right (not just online), and in this case, I don't care how stupid and pointless it is to get involved. Once again, I have to question why you got so belligerent because someone gave you some advice. Anyway, just because I help people online doesn't mean that I don't do actual volunteer work, in fact I do. Just not at soup kitchens because the majority of bums are capable of working but choose not to because they know that they can leech off of society. I have nothing against anyone due to a lack of education, and a lot of my friends are "lower people", as you would put it, but until now I had never thought of it like that. Even the inability to use proper grammar or spell words correctly is forgivable to an extent, as long as it's readable. But if someone with no education, who can't spell, use proper grammar or punctuation has the nerve to insult the intelligence of someone who gives some good advice, you bet I'll point it out. And, not to split hairs on what I hope is sarcasm, but it is impossible to choke yourself to death. Prior to death you loose consiousnes which causes you to relax your grip, regain oxygen, and keep on living.

Re: Tranny swap done, caused a problem plz help
alright i get it, dont brag about your grammar and writing skills anymore, although im sure thats your best quality and drives all the desperate woman or men crazy, but you still arent smart enough to realize i want to know one thing, what gives or gave you the right to "turn it around on me" when it had nothing to do with you. until i get a logical answer then youre still a pos who gets jollies by posting here as much as you do. and i dont need to know you to call you that i can just tell, just like your comment about homless that can get a job if they wanted too, its not all that easy, if you got of that almighty horse youre riding fueled by that huge ego you have cause of your precious ase certs youd understand that, later P.O.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
