Physical Hard Drive Failure

Hey guys, i am sorry to ask this but is there anyone that i can buy pictures from...i had over 2 GB of mclaren pictures saved up from the site and others but i have lost all of them...i tried a HDD recovery service but they got nothing. I am sorry to ask, but i have been so upset i figured this would be the best way to get back on the saddle so to speak. Thanks for you help and time. Have a good one!

Re: Physical Hard Drive Failure

I've toyed with this idea in the past - selling my ever-increasing-in-size image collection, but thought the market would be limited. I think I have about 17k+images equating to about 16gb, small fry compared to some on here.

What would the going rate be? per image or per gb?

Re: Physical Hard Drive Failure

guys, get a network attached drive and back up stuff to it every day. and see about storing stuff online on places like photobucket, flickr, web-based backup sites, etc. i can't believe people still lose stuff when their local hard disk goes!

Re: Physical Hard Drive Failure

I know the feeling. I lost my hard drive a couple of years ago. It took me a long time to get over the disaster, but it did teach me a good lesson. A backup drive is the only way to go.

I guess I did my thing differently. I just started over and eventually built it back up. I'm back up to about 2.6 g with my McLaren folder. Not ever sure what I'll do with all of that. I now have (2) 500g drives and use one as a backup. Not sure what the answer is as far as selling photos. I know it's still max- frustration for you. Hang in there, it'll just take time of get everything back.

Re: Physical Hard Drive Failure

One thing you guys can do is put it on a flash drive and connect that to an electronic picture frame. This way you can look at and enjoy your pics, instead of having them buried in your computer. Electronic picture frames are cheap--I got a decent one for fifty bucks on sale.

You can get 8gb or greater flash drives cheaply online. I get mine for free by going to trade shows and getting the press kits for journalists--these days they give all the info out on flash drives--and most of the time, they don't ask you for press credentials!

Old laptops also make very good picture frames--just remove the hinges, fold the screen back over the keyboard, glue everything in place, and glue a picture frame on top of the screen that is the same size, give or take. Framing shops can cut foam core frames for you at cheap prices too.

Pay for a DVD itself and the shipping fees, it's fair.
But I don't see why you should pay for pictures people got for free.
Except, of course, if they pay royalties to each photographers the pictures belongs to.

I don't collect lots of pictures any more, but I should have somewhere a lot of "old one".

Re: Physical Hard Drive Failure

How about paying for the time it has taken to accumulate the pictures? Sure, they were more than likely free off the internet, but those with far more than me must have spent alot of time saving, filing and sorting them, and it's not something you can do overnight; mine for example have been saved since before I joined this website (Oct03) and have 161 folders containing 18249 files to date taking up nearly 9gb of space (they are backed up on memory stick and external hard drive)

Re: Physical Hard Drive Failure

I hate to be a kill joy, but just a quick warning to you all, last week i merley posted someone else's picture on a forum and he threatened me with legal action. As the image was copyright to him, I dont think legally you can sell other peoples images especially the copyrighted work belonging to the professional photographers who guard thier work jealously.
My images are not copyrighted professionally but they still technically belong to me and i dont think id be to happy to think someone was earning money off them, when it is me that has gone to the trouble of travelling / photographing / uploading them, And im quite relaxed about it! Just Warning that others are not so relaxed. Only the other day i saw another man on another forum asking a poster what he though he was doing posting his copyrighted images.
