1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

I've always loved these early DSM coupes. They were very tough looking back in the day. Hmmm I think they STILL look tough. This is a Fujimi Starion kit. Unfortunately they never did kit the wideboy version, so I had to scratchbuild the widebody flares. The ghost flames were accomplished by laying the silver base, then painting the flames in Ford Cayman. Over all that went HOK green, and clear.

Thanks for looking and as always tell me what you think.

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

How curious that there's over 140 views and not one opinion. Not even a negative one.

I'm here to get honest opinions. If you like it, great. If you don't, and can tell me why, even better. I can learn from this.

Thanks for the few opinions I have had on my work. I'm always grateful for those.

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

I like your work on the fenders. This is an old fujimi kit and I heard it was a real challenge to even put together, let alone doing extra body work. Seat belts and speakers look out of scale and I am not a fan of the interior/exterior colors as I am used to build car models close to stock form. Nice job on the PSP, I know painting two tone interior straight lines are such a painful job!

Thank you for the comments. This was my first attempt at seat belts, and my last. I can't afford PE parts for each model I build, so I do what I can with what I have on hand. If I build seat belts again, I'll use aluminum from soda-pop cans.

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

Sharp looking car. I might not even have realized it was a wide-body if you hadn't mentioned it. So excellent work blending that in to the lines of the stock body.

I am not sure if it is the pictures, or real life, but the color on the seats looks more blue than the body color.

Not sure if you were trying to do a green interior to match the body, but from the pictures it looks blue.

I also like the bright green. I used that same color on a hot-rod kit I have in the display case, and it is REALLY bright green.

Excellent work!

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

alright,

the pictures are grainy so we can't really see what's going on.
try setting the car in front of a big piece of construction paper.
The idea is to minimize the distractions from your work.

Not liking the green and loud colored interior.

the stance is decent.

Not a fan of the huge tack (h) , and "monster woofers".
the switch box on the center console is a okay.

eh, overall it's pretty good. kinda grows on me. kinda.

just clean up the basics, use masking tape, and post some clear photos
with a blank backdrop.

THEN, we'll talk.

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

I like it. I like these Starions and other DSMs like you. The widebody looks effortless, very nice. Your details are really cool, too, like the PSP and the tach. Very nice work. the only criticisms I can give you are things that will get better over time. Masking, using thinner paint and a steadier hand, and practicing will all get you where you're going. I also agree that your photography would be better in front of a blank backdrop. But we all started everything somewhere, and I'm really impressed with this and your other models. Welcome to AF! And hang out with us. I'd love to see what you can do.

I wanted one of those cars so bad that I almost went into the Army to get one! Thanks for sharing this build!! I can appreciate all of the effort you put into this. The widebody convesion looks as if it was from the Fujimi factory!!

Another great body mod dude!!! Looks flawless. Would like to see a stock one. Too bad fujimi never made the AWD version. Great work!!!!!

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R Widebody

Thank you for the comments.
The photos aren't as grainy as you'd think. The paint has an alligator pattern in it. Sort of a cold blooded hot rod. This is all show car & bling. Hence the auto trans. The interior isn't my best work. I went WAY over the top, even for me! Though I'm still proud of the tach & PSP. The colors & seat belts....not so much.

Here's a pic of the stock body in primer...
