MFH Questions

Hi everybody!

I've just bought my first MFH kit, and I was asking myself some questions:

Resin body looks really better than other manufacturers. Is there anybody who would know which kind of technology they use for casting them?

Is that classic silicon + vacuum resin casting or is it something else?

Thanks

Olivier.

Re: MFH Questions

MFH kits are made by making up a master by either machining, milling, or printer. Their printer is unbelievable. It is one of those that turns goo into a solid object one layer at a time. You can sometimes see the lines. As far as casting, it is the same tried and true technique as Studio27 and several other Japanese manufacturers. It is a silcone/pressure setup. I believe they take more time making molds and have them far more supportive. The resin is also different than what is here in the US as they probably have something made there. It is similar to Smooth On which is used by HRM. If you take your time, you can have castings just as good. There aren't many american makers, but you can see some very good examples by casting companies like Quik Skins, Fisher's, Modelhaus, HRM, Replica and Miniatures, etc. They all make such good models that even the average modeler can enjoy lots of resin.

Re: MFH Questions

These images were posted by somebody when they visited Model Factory Hiro in 2006, and I just saved them - so I apologize for re-posting them without acknowledgment, but I just don't remember who took them!
This is MFH inside report :

Re: MFH Questions

Wow, thanks for these interesting photos.

Is there a reason for making circular mold? Are they spinning while casting? So the centrifugal force will push the air bubbles out?

He probably does all the polishing

It looks like that to me:

However it is only for small white metal parts.
I suppose it's the same for small resin parts. However I suppose it is different for the bigger resin parts like body shells and chassis.

PS: The guy is working with hot (300-400 Celsius) metal in a T-shirt and Shorts.

Yes - exactly that. Centrifugal white metal casting.

Re: MFH Questions

Even if it's a team of 10 full time guys and gals, it's still very impressive considering the quality of their output and their reputation.

By the way, has anyone ever found a dog hair in their MFH kit?

You see DM, he's 2K coated, satin kind

I suspect also some weathering here and there

Mr. Hiro, please, don't meant if we're joking a bit, I'm a Hiro's fan and avid collector (for now, may be I start to be a builder too), BTW... is male or female? I think Pepa would like a Jap hursband

Poor Benson...: Steve he's aged, I'm sory
