Exclamation UPDATE: Flashing dash on startup, accompanied by dieing randomly

It was the fuel filter. Even though a fuel pressure test was normal. My local mechanic says that sometimes it has pressure but little volume. When I took the old filter off, I couldn't even blow through it. I put it on yesterday and have not had any of the previous problems.

I still only have 30 psi with engine off, ignition on. Alldata says 41-47 psi. Should I worry if there are no symptoms? Would I replace the fuel pump next or the pressure regulator?

Thanks

Re: UPDATE: Flashing dash on startup, accompanied by dieing randomly

just had a 02 alero that did the same thing...hard to start up...fuel pump quit soon after turns out the filter was heavily clogged, which ultimately burned out the fuel pump. Id look into the pump just so you don't end up on the side of the road. If the fuel filter was that clogged, it means that pump has been struggling for some time...

Well I replaced the fuel filter and then the ignition switch and my problems have been solved. I never thought that the ignition switch could cause such a myriad of symptoms. From intermident (sp) turn signals to dieing randomly.

Hendrix3511:

Did you replace the ignition switch or did you get someone to do it? The dealer told me it would cost $700 to replace the ignition switch. I have had the ignition switch changed 3 times on this car and the most in the past was $300. Needless to say that dealership went out of business.

from what ive read here i think you will be able to replace it yourself if you have some tools, a lil know how, and some time.
