Re: rear speakers

Take a look at hxxp//www.crutchfield.com. That will give you a good idea of what you can install in the rear deck of your car.

Re: rear speakers

The rear speakers are standard 6x9's. If you have the 8 speaker system, the 6X9's are bass only, and the 4" rounds are the mid-high's.

To remove the speakers, the carpeted rear shelf has to come out.

To do so, remove the lower seat cushion by pulling on the two release tabs (one on each side of the center hump) at the seam between the cushion and the carpet.

Next, remove the 4 bolts retaining the bottom of the seat back (the two inboard ones also secure the rear seatbelts).

Once the bolts are removed, gently lift the seatback to disengage the two hooks at the top and remove.

Now you should see two large plastic push-in retainers that hold the carpet to the rear shelf. Remove these retainers, slide the carpet out and you can now see the speakers which are held in place by 4 screws that come in from the top.

If you don't want to cut and splice your OEM speaker wiring harness, electronics retailers like Best Buy carry speaker harnesses that plug into the car's wiring and have the spade terminals commonly used on aftermarket speakers for about $6/pair.

Re: rear speakers

When I replaced the rear speakers I mounted them from the bottom of the deck. I drilled mounting holes and mounted the speakers in the trunk. Makes it easier to remove or replace, you do not need to take the back seat apart.

Re: rear speakers

When you go to Best Buy and listen to all those speakers on the display and pick the best one, be sure to ask if you need an amplifier to boost the sound to those back speakers. I bought some great speakers at Circuit City and they never told me it needed an amp too. They installed them and when I went back to complain how weak the sound was, it was then that they told me oh I need a $200 amp too. I never bought it. Just faded to rear and cranked up the rear speakers loud. That car is gone now , but I have a new Pontiac with a great sound system and satellite radio too. Love it! Good luck with your speakers!
