i gave my x a possesed car and its haunting me any ideas please

I gave my xgf a 89 grand prix - 3.1 ltr and soon she claimed it ran rough. Intermittant stalling. did the basic check for vacume leaks ect- removed egr and cleaned up , the car had been sitting a while. soon it acted up again - stalling at stop sign ect - she had to keep foot in it to keep running so i replaced the fuel pump and filter. i ran the scanner on it - came up high voltage to map - replaced that with new. ran good for 1 day then checked codes - none. i then pulled off the throttle assembly cleaned up ect - found the idle air control very loose and fell out - replaced that and went through the learning idle procedure. ran ok for about 10 min. engine seemed like timeing going hay wire rpms wouldnt go past 2000, ruff idle , surge idle, stall. decided to pull off the intake and replace valley gaskets due to oil leakage and noticed a small fuel drip out the fuel pressure block on the fuel rail. replaced it with new. took it for a test beat around the block - only made it half way - had to get a tow strap. Determined not to give up I ventured under the beast and discovered a couple broken wires wrapped in tape - repaired them , found a misterious broken wire from the crank position sender" the cener one in 3 pin plug wraped in foil and went to sender below the coil pack . resoldered and rewrapped it . ran engine up to temp - pulled batter cable off reconected it started ran alittle longer - it ran ruff but still idled ruff and still had low rpm issue shut off and key on to relearn idle position - tried to start it and miss fire - wont start. No codes or check engine lite. has good fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Im thinking theres prally something wrong in the timeing chain or belt tensiner area if it has one?

Timing chain issues are not common on the engine in that car. When they do go bad, they make a horrible grinding/rattling noise as the loose chain allows the cam to walk for and aft eventually rubbing on the inside of the timing cover.

Have you checked/replaced the CKPS (crank position sensor)? Also, the wire harness that goes from the CKPS to the ICM (ignition control module) is a twisted pair and has to remain twisted or it will not carry the signal properly. Make sure you didn't untwist it when you did your repair.

Bingo thats gotta be it. My helper pulled it out and just said yes it was twisted around other wires and I did get the foil wrapped around it all but didnt twist it.one end i removed the connector from plug body and re soldered it then assembled ,the other end just stopped just beforre the plug body connected to nothing.I thought it seemed funny to run a bare wire like that. Im takeing a break from wrenching and will get back to ya on how it runs with it twisted- may end going to the dreaded bone yard LOL
