Parking brake

I was going to adjust the parking brake on the pickup. It was all the way to the adjustment stop. I looked in my all data and it stated this was supposed to be done on a recall. I purchased it used with 3000 miles on the truck.
Will the dealer still do this or should I purchase new parking brake shoes and do it myself.

their is NO recall on your vehicle if it is automatic transmission.................

you will need to remove the rear rotors and replace/adjust the park brake shoes......this will cost about 100.oo for parts...

and will work for another maybe thousand miles, and then will go back to no parking brake. it's a design flaw, oh so well known for the year. including mine. just use curb for extra support, or park, bumper to bumper, behind a tank on decline.

Re: Parking brake

I purchased a new Wagner set for $89.00 so I will install them shortly.
I had the local GMC dealer run the Vin. number before purchasing.

Re: Parking brake

I checked it out and as I had appx. 3/4 of the pads left. I loosened the cable adjuster all the way. I then adjusted the adjuster for the pads like doing a regular brake job. I did both sides and put everything together. It was slightly loose on the pedal so I tightened the cable adjuster some until it was were I wanted them. Maybe 1 inch from the end so I still have appx.2 inches left.
Anyway they work fine at this time.

the cable can be adjusted so long as the park brake dog ear where the cables connect on each park brake are fully in the release position.

the interior park brake pedal is supossed to be self adjusting BUT this I have found to be not / poorly designed and part of the total defective design...good luck....watch for the brake rotor to get hot when driving around for a while where the park shoes ride..
