97 Lesabre AC Leak

Well, it is almost that time again as it reached 80 degrees here today and the Lesabre AC is not holding a charge. I ran some dye through it and found that it is leaking profusely off the very front portion of the compressor. It is slinging so much out that the dye is on the underside of the hood and everywhere else in between.

How do I stop the compressor leak? Should the front plate come off for a seal replacement, or should I get a new compressor? Does the compressor need to come out of the car for the fix? What parts are needed? It does get very cool when it is working, but I am sure that there will be no freon left by tomorrow. Thanks.

Re: 97 Lesabre AC Leak

Typical shaft seal leaker...Either find someone who can change the seal- or splurge for a new compressor.

they should cary the compressor if not it would be dealers item. check nappa or carquest if you got them parts stores around you? if not let it run out and unplug the compressor. sometimes salvage yard could have one new or like new....good luck....

Re: 97 Lesabre AC Leak

Shaft seal kit is sold anywhere a/c delco parts are sold-

A/C delco part # 15-30948

or GM part number 2724954

But you will need some special tools you can borrow at Autozone....

Re: 97 Lesabre AC Leak

Thanks. This really helps. I'll track down a seal kit and pull the compressor.
