Is America being led by the best person for the job?

I'm wondering.....is George Bush truly the best person to lead America? What if sexual stereotypes,gender bias and racial prejudices were put aside for the good of the nation,and women,gays and Americans of ethnic descent could compete on an equal basis?

Does the President of the United States have to be a white middle aged straight male christian?and if so, why?

Of course he doesn't- It seems that Americans only want these middle age married, white men in the presidential chair- wat I must question is what is the reasoning behind this???? I'd be in favour of a woman/gay/black president- anything is better than Dubya- It'd be a nice break from the norm

I have no problem with gays, women, or other ethnic races being President, but if I don't agree with their political agenda they won't get my vote. If Colin Powell or J.C. Watts ran for President, they'd get my vote. I still think Charles Barkley would be a great canidate as well.

i dont think we need a gay guy in our office, but i have to problem with women, black, latino... etc in office.

God is the one who allows leaders to be in place. We only see the small picture, He sees the big one... He sees the end from the beginning. I just got a 2000 Blazer and it has some problems that I did not expect. There is more to it than my tiny little problems.

All presidents have not been "Christian". A Christian is one who has made Jesus Christ the Lord of their life in every area, a committed person, not just going to church on Sunday waving your Bible at every one when you come out.

Now that I think about having a gay president, I think that would be a bad idea. A gay guy won't be tough enough, and if everyone thinks America is be ridiculed now, wait till there's a gay in the office.

Please explain how this thread is "bashing the president of the United States"?

The opening post casts a simple question in neutral terms.Perhaps if you see the proposal that there may be alternatives as bashing the existing,then you need to address your own issues first.

Considering you started this thread I'd say yes you are engaged in Bush bashing. You've made no secret of your hatred for him. I just think there are enough existing threads where he is already being bashed without another one.

hatred is a pretty misinformed term.Loathing and disgust,yes,hatred,no.

Perhaps if he is being bashed in so many threads,you might care to stop and wonder why.This thread isn't about him,it's about the shortcomings of the American electoral system,and it's resulting skew towards white middle-aged married millionaires.

I have sometimes thought these same things, and wished that maybe we could get an African-American President, or a female president, or a Jewish president or even a gay president, though I dont know if that would happen, seeing as so many view homosexuality as morally wrong(Naki is gonna be all over that "morally" part and would rather not have him in office.

I don't think that this trend is due to any hidden sexual or racist discriminations directly. I think it has more to due with socioeconomics... To run for president one needs a lot of money and generally male WASPS generally tend to have more economic funds than most other groups within America. One could then argue that these socioeconomic trends are a direct result of these hidden discriminations within America but I for one think that we are making some progress. I predict in the near future, these socioeconomic trends will disappear (hopefully) and we will see a lot more diversity in presidential candidates and hopefully presidents as well.
