1992 Lumina - replacing wheel bearing and scoping out smoking steering wheel

My sister's needs a new passenger side front wheel bearing. Anyone ever done this? Haynes says stabilizer bar has to be detached and a tool is need to remove the bearing from the splined shaft (half shaft?). Can I buy the tool from Horror Freight? Is it even necessary? I did a set of wheel bearing years ago on a Beretta and I don't remember it being anywhere near involved.

My L* smokes now and again if I leave the turn signal on for too long. Need to pull the steering wheel I suppose. This seems to be common on these models (it's happened to her also, and my brother used to have a '92 3.4 Euro. I guess it's well established we're a Chebby family LOL LOL). So once I pull the steering wheel, what is entailed to alleviate this problem? Seems like some kind of overhaul is necessary, simply replacing part/s or wiring won't fix it, seeing it happens on most of these models.

IIRC, the older ones smoked from old dielectric grease in the switch getting in the contacts. I think it's pretty harmless.

The solution would be a new T/S switch if it got really annoying.
