Airbag light, Cruise Control, Horn not working
I'm thinking this is just a fuse, probably under the hood. But the Air Bag light came on not long after I got the vehicle. Then it went off for a day or 2. Then it came back on and has been on ever since.
Didn't notice that the horn wasnt working til recently and noticed that the Cruise Control didnt work when I drove to Tennessee about 2 months ago. Are these 2 things on the same fuse under the hood? I pulled both Air bag fuses next to the steering wheel and they were fine. It was dark outside when I did it so I didnt look for a horn and cruise control fuse. Anyone else have this problem? It's a 2001. |

Re: Airbag light, Cruise Control, Horn not working
Sounds like a classic chrysler clock spring failure!

Re: Airbag light, Cruise Control, Horn not working
Did they have a recall on the PT Cruisers for that? I remember the recall for the 96-99 or something like that Town and Countries.
In which Chrysler got away with only replacing it on vehicles that had less than 70k miles or something like that. This would cause the cruise and horn not to work also? If you press the panic button on the keyless entry, or just lock the doors, the horn sounds. But you can pound the steering wheel and nothing. And there is only a "Chime" When you start the vehicle. I noticed in similar forums that people heard the chime constantly. Last edited by KCarter1982; 04-22-2009 at 12:25 PM. Reason: Just a small note to add. |

Re: Airbag light, Cruise Control, Horn not working
Found this googling around:
The clock spring is what transfers circuit contact of the controls that turn with the steering wheel. Airbags, speed control and horn seem to be the major ones. It is a commonly used circuit, and is problematic. With the amount of Plastic used in the interior of the PT, the "curing" stage where the residue of the plastic inside the cockpit, as it ages, can settle on the contact area of the clock spring. Sounds like you hit it right on the head. Wonder what this will cost me. |

Did you ever fix the airbag issues? My light comes on and beeps like 5-6 times, dealer wants a lot of money to look at it. I wish I knew how to reset it?
