Leather Cleaning Suggestions

I just bought a 2000 GLS with 114k. The leather is for the most part in good shape but the back seats in particular need to be cleaned as the previous owner had a crew of rug rats.

Does anyone have suggestions for something that has worked for them? Is a conditioner also a good idea? in Tulsa, triple digit summer temps are not uncommon. Does anyone know if this is 'real' leather or 'pleather' ?

tannery leather cleaner works well also murphy's oil soap also works well on leather seats and gives a nice smell

My wife uses Murphy's Oil Soap on our wood floors. It does a nice job on the floors but I think it really has quite a strong odor. Wherever I go in the house I can smell it. Not what I would call a pleasant smell. I've never heard of it being used on leather car interior. I bet it cleans what ever is on your seats real well but soap smell X 10 for sure. Not sure if it's leather friendly either.

The stuff I use that does a very good job of cleaning & has very nice "leathery" smell was purchased at Carquest. Unfortunately I can't find it right now to give you a brand name etc. It comes in a smallish white bottle with a pump sprayer.

The parts of the seat your body touches while sitting should be real leather. The backs & sides might be man made. Conditioner is a good thing.

Leather anything is kind of a luck thing. Some cuts wear like iron while others show wear with very little use. My drivers seat has one panel that's cracked but the one next to it that gets as much or more wear or is like new. Same with my work boots. Wish I knew how to tell which was going to wear well before buying but they all look good when new. Sounds like you where lucky & have some good cuts.

Just don't use something like Simple Green on your seats or anything else on your car for that matter.
