which carbon fiber decals to get?

I am working on the Arta NSX and want to add carbon fiber details to the interior. I was going to get them from SMS, but I dont know which ones to get. What is the difference besides the obvious pattern change? I saw someone using "HD" carbon fiber, would that be the best way to go?

I have never applied decals before, and so far i have the caliper decals perfect, haha. I know they will get far more challenging as they get bigger and more intricate, but I'm wanting to add as much detail as possible.

I've only been modeling for 6 months so if I said anything stupid take it easy.

thanks in advance.

Re: which carbon fiber decals to get?

My favorite CF for general application is the SMS Twill Weave Black /Pewter (Code 1000), especially after they renewed their badge. The new CF looks darker and more realistic compared to the older badge.

For interior pieces, i.e back of the seat, I'd use the Kevlar Basket Weave Yellow/Black (Code 1300) or the Carbon Kevlar Plain Weave Black/Amber (Code 1200). But other pieces should also be ok with the Twill Weave Black/Pewter.

Your best bet would be looking for reference pictures and match that. If there is no pic, refer to Tamiya's instruction guide (usually X-18 refers to Twill Weave Black/Pewter) this is especially true in newer race cars.

SMS Hi-Def CF is great for exterior use, I think it is too dark for interior use though.

I noticed a lot of you guys use the kevlar yellow/black for the seats, but i did find a few cockpit photos of the nsx. the center part of the steering wheel is raw carbon fiber, flat finish and everything else inside is black. I'm not too worried about making it super accurate, just nice and clean looking.

I'll check out the stuff you mentioned, thank you very much.

EDIT: also, how much will I need? How much does one sheet cover?

My thing with CF sheet is that I'll never have too much

It could be used for back-up or find anything on the kit to lay CF on just for an excuse

But I would think that one sheet for each type is more than enough for the NSX.

Don't forget the following for your CF project:
1. Cotton swabs (a lot of it)
2. Low wattage hair dryer
3. Micro set/sol or Solvaset (I personally like Solvaset more now because it comes with attached brush just like Tamiya cement).

Re: which carbon fiber decals to get?

Hi, i love Carbon fibre. Its just so essential to my build. Well, i would recommend, KA models, or Studio 27 plain CF decals, though the S27 is more expensive, KA model's twill is really good as well, so do modelers twill CF. Recently fuijimi has came out with this plain CF as well, and cost more than S27! SMS hi def is good too, but i still don think they look as good as the plain weave by S27 or KA model imo. Therefore i would recommend KA model for economic n accuracy reason.

studio 27 has small medium and large, I'm assuming small would apply to 1/24?

I like the small plain weave cf from studio27 for 1/24 projects. They look and seems to react better to decal solutions than others. I've tried SMS, Modeler's, Tamiya and studio27
