Instrument Cluster

I recently visited the junk yard and picked up a new gauge cluster for my Buick. I have a 1994 Buick LeSabre Limited with the instrument cluster that has the speedometer, fuel level gauge and warning lights. The new cluster I picked up has a tach, speedo, temp and oil. I put this cluster in and it didn't work. It's out of a 1993 LeSabre Limited. Is there anything that I'm missing? Is it possible to make this work. Do I maybe need to put another fuse in?

Your car's wiring probably does not have any provisions for the tach, temp, and oil gauges, and thus the gauges are not hooked to anything, and thus will not work. Your only get around is to closely inspect a wiring diagram for the 93 and the 94 and note the difference and see about running separate wires from your instrument cluster rear to the proper area of the car. All in all probably not worth the trouble and I'd put my regular instrument cluster back in if it were me.

PS. I completely removed my dash on my 92 once when I was chasing a bad series of electrical demons. I know the amount of work involved in rewiring your cluster and you don't want to do it. The entire dash is all connected to one big wiring harness that connects to another giant wiring harness under the dash with two giant plastic connectors. This allows you to remove the entire dash from the car all in one piece. It is not easy to do, but doable. Your problem would be access to the rear of the instrument cluster electrical hookup. That is where you'd need to add/splice/solder wires. To get at it, you most likely would have to remove the dash, or at least work in very difficult conditions from under the dash lying on your back reaching up--but likely that would not work too well. Okay, that solves it, I'm just going to keep the stock cluster in there. I mean it's not worth going through something like that to check out my oil pressure and tach. If it's not broken, don't fix it. I believe that comes into play here. Thank you.
